Dr. Agnès Leor is a doctor in psychiatry, specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry. She has a degree from the faculty of medicine at the University of Tel Aviv. Though she has had several years of experience in a psychiatric hospital, for the past 18 years she has been a psychiatrist in the public health sector at the Sourasky medical center in Tel Aviv (Ichilov). She was responsible for the child and adolescent psychiatry unit and also for the "Consultation – Liaison" services (children's mental health counseling and care) at the Tel Aviv medical center. Dr. Leor is the head of a in a mental traumatology department.

Dr. Leor treats all aspects of emotional anguish in children: depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, learning disabilities, social skills issues, family communication issues, and all types of trauma, breakdowns and other mental health problems. She also treats children with special care needs.
Dr. Leor's goal is to relieve the suffering of the child and his family and to “predict” possible future emotional consequences. Her approach is a systematic one. Due to his young age, a child is dependent on his family and his environment such as school and occasionally other factors. This is why her work is directed not only towards the child but also towards the family (with the parents' agreement), and sometimes the school residential staff, the after-school activities staff, or any other factor that affects the child's life.
Her integrative approach is also evident in her diagnoses and how they affect the child's treatment. When a child comes for diagnosis, he arrives with basic (innate) characteristics as well as the influence from the environment in which he has evolved all his life up until the diagnostic. These two factors – the innate and acquired baggage – define the first consultation in view of establishing a diagnostic and setting up a treatment program.
Dr. Leor guides the parents of the child in question, makes the psychiatric diagnosis and prescribes medical treatments. As a psychotherapist, she opts for various methods of treatment according to the patient's needs: dynamic psychotherapy (focusing on the unconscious) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CGT).
Dr. Leor is convinced that an accurate diagnosis is the key to successful treatment. As a therapist, she knows it is her duty to provide the child and his family with an honest, easily understandable diagnosis, with a supportive and empathetic approach that brings renewed hope. She knows how to communicate with children according to their ages and their ability to understand, and gives the family her opinions about the child while providing practical advice for the next phase of treatment.
Dr. Leor speaks Hebrew, English and French. She can be contacted at her office to schedule an appointment.
